I am an avid reader. But even more than reading, I love books themselves. Overbuying books is a habit of excess that is more socially acceptable than over-acquiring almost anything else.
About 20 years ago, I was speaking with a near-stranger about my impulse control problems with books. He challenged me to read all the books on my shelves before I bought another book. That suggestion has stuck with me.
Since I recently finished up my job as a book-movie-music reviewer for a magazine, I think I’m ready to tackle the project. I’m going to start reading through my shelves.
I won’t read all of them without acquiring any new ones, that’s just crazy talk. But I’m going to start with the authors whose last names begin with A, reading one by each author in order.
